PROJECT: Hawaiian Cottage
John and Gregg’s favorite architectural style in Hawaii is the colonial style which they embellished on this project with highly reflective ceilings, coffee bean floors, and tropical painted paneled Canec (sugar cane, in place of drywall). Sugar cane is no longer grown in Hawaii, and subsequently Canec is no longer produced, making this a unique feature of the cottage. This home is located on the famous Black Point in Honolulu, where Doris Duke lived, overlooking the Maunalua Bay toward Koko Head. This community has the only concrete in-ocean swimming pool in Hawaii.
